How ranking works

The whole system, explained plainly. It is deliberately simple, so there is not much to game and not much to misunderstand.

The short answer

Products are ranked by upvotes within a launch window, and the top three of each day keep a badge permanently. One vote per account per product, and ranking is never for sale. Reviews are separate — they shape how people judge a product but do not affect its position.

Launch windows

A launch day runs from midnight to midnight UTC. Within that window, products are ordered by how many upvotes they have. When it closes, the top three keep their badge for as long as the listing exists.

Voting rules

  • One vote per account per product. Voting again removes it — it is a toggle.
  • You need an account to vote.
  • Votes are not weighted by account age or activity.
  • Imported listings may show a historical count from their original source, kept separate from votes cast here.

Vote manipulation

Multiple accounts, vote-for-vote groups, incentivised voting and paid engagement all get accounts removed. The practical argument is stronger than the enforcement one: votes obtained that way bring no users, so you end up with a number next to your name and an empty funnel. The rules are set out in our content policy.

Reviews are separate

Upvotes measure interest on a given day. Star ratings reflect experience of actually using something, and they do not affect ranking at all. A product can top a board with no reviews, and a product rated 5.0 can sit low on one. Over time the reviews matter more, because they are what someone arriving in six months will read.

What it costs

Nothing. Submitting is free, there is no review queue to skip, and placement is not for sale. If that ever changes, anything paid will be labelled where it appears — see our advertising disclosure.
