Cookie Policy

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store and send back on later visits. It is how a site remembers that you are signed in, and how advertising networks recognise a browser across pages.

Related technologies do the same job by other means — local storage, session storage and tracking pixels among them. Where this policy says "cookie" it means all of these, because the privacy question is identical whatever the storage mechanism.

This policy explains what Vuru sets, why, and what control you have. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers personal information more broadly.

These are the cookies the site cannot work without. They are exempt from consent requirements because refusing them would mean refusing the service you asked for.

• Session cookie — set only after you sign in. Contains a signed reference to your account and nothing else: no email, no name, no browsing history. Expires when your session ends or you sign out.
• CSRF token — a short-lived value that proves a form submission came from our own pages rather than a hostile site. Expires with the session.
• Consent record — if we ask you about non-essential cookies, we store your answer so we do not ask again on every page. Without it, refusing would not stick.

None of these are used for advertising, analytics or profiling, and none are shared with anyone.

We aim to understand aggregate usage without tracking individuals. Where we can measure something without a cookie — a simple server-side count of page requests, for example — we do that instead.

If we introduce cookie-based analytics, we will list the provider and the cookies here first, and ask for consent where the law requires it. Analytics cookies are never strictly necessary, so declining them will never restrict your access to anything.

We may fund the site with advertising, including advertising served by Google through AdSense. Advertising cookies are set by the ad network rather than by us, and the network is an independent controller of what it collects.

Where advertising is running, the following applies:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com.
• You can opt out of other vendors' advertising cookies at aboutads.info/choices, or youronlinechoices.eu in Europe.
• Google may place a cookie to frequency-cap ads, aggregate statistics, and detect click fraud. These serve the advertising system rather than us.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, no advertising cookie is set before you consent, in line with Google's EU User Consent Policy. The banner will let you refuse as plainly as accept, and you can change your answer later.

Under several United States state laws, allowing advertising cookies may count as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We honour the Global Privacy Control signal as an opt-out for the browser that sends it.

Some product listings include a demo video or other embedded content hosted elsewhere. Where an embed loads, the provider may set its own cookies, and its policy governs them rather than ours.

We prefer privacy-preserving embed modes where a provider offers one, and we avoid embeds that load automatically when a static image would do the same job.

Following any outbound link — to a listed product, a partner site or anything else — takes you outside this policy entirely.

You have several levers, in rough order of precision:

• Our consent banner, where one is shown, controls every non-essential cookie we are responsible for.
• Your browser settings can block or clear cookies for this site specifically, or for all sites. Every major browser offers this under privacy or site settings.
• Private or incognito windows discard cookies when the window closes.
• Browser extensions and network-level blockers can prevent advertising and analytics cookies from being set at all.
• Global Privacy Control, supported by several browsers and extensions, sends an automatic opt-out signal that we honour.

Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop you signing in — the site has no other way to remember who you are between pages. Everything readable without an account remains fully available.

We will update this page before adding any new category of cookie, not afterwards, and the date at the top shows when it last changed.
